Virgin Active Sports Awards 2013

The Gansbaai Breaking Barriers programme was nominated for the Virgin Unite Community Programme Award at the prestigious Virgin Active Sports Awards 2013 that took place at Emperors Palace in Johannesburg on the 7th of February. Key figures from across the industry and a host of top celebrities attended the night of celebrations.

Highlights included legendary football legend Jomo Sono receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award, Oscar Pistorius presenting the Proteas with Outstanding Contribution to South African Sport, a red carpet packed with sporting legends and over 1,200 guests.

Even though the Breaking Barriers programme did not win the award, we were honoured to have been one of only five projects nominated. We stood alongside the giants in Sport for Development and are very proud of our achievement. Congratulations to MTN Qhubeka for taking home the trophy, and thanks to our Gansbaai Breaking Barriers sponsors Barclays/Absa for supporting us.
